Karl Haendel was born in New York in 1976; he received a BA from Brown University and an MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2003. Haendel’s large-scale graphite drawings and installations are fascinating plays on cultural perception; images are collected, appropriated, and/or tweaked to unstoppable ripple-reality effect. Recent solo and group exhibitions have been held at Harris Lieberman, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Guggenheim Museum, New York, among others. Collections with holdings of Haendel’s work include the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; MoMA, New York; and La Coleccion Jumex, Mexico City.
