Sterling Ruby

by greater-la

Sterling Ruby was born in Bitburg, Germany, in 1972. He attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Art Center College of Design, Los Angeles. Irreducible to a single nexus of media or theme, Ruby’s practice is a tidal takedown of the powers that be, drawing as often on the primordial, inchoate forms and forces that were, as on contemporary material. Ruby’s work has been exhibited at Pace Wildenstein, New York; Marc Foxx Gallery, Los Angeles; Taka Ishii Gallery, Kyoto, Japan; Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach, CA; Museum of Modern Art, New York, and elsewhere; it is held in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Guggenheim Museum, New York; Los Angeles County Museum; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Seattle Art Museum, and others.
